The Outpost started in 2012 with the intention to produce and disseminate a new narrative on and from the Arab region. The publication's narrative is forward-looking and hopeful, and aims to counter the discourse of fear and despair that is so prevalent in the Arab media landscape.

Issue #2 The Possibility of Living Here focused on makers making change in their lives and the lives of many others in the Arab region, devising a system that connects them across diverse disciplines and distances. The issue became an exploration of the cumulative impact of these connections and a proposition on how our world could be made all the better because of them.

My contribution was specifically part of a story about the possibility of North African economic integration. Today, each of the North African economies operate alone. The story envisioned how these economies could open up to each other. Building upon data from the UN Comtrade Database I designed a set of infographics to show the dynamics of intra-regional trade in the North African region, highlighting its weakness compared to other regions of the world that are successfully integrated, such as Europe or East Asia.
